The lasty few days have seen evening temperatures of 52 in North Bend,
Dropping to 37 by the time I got home and then usually drop to 32 over
night. There is no new snow to speak of except that it was starting

ROADS - The roads were reasonably clear. Winter driving conditions do exist, but they are not as bad as I would have thought given the weather predicitions. Make no mistake, traction is still a good idea and caution is needed, it was just not as bad as I have had the opportunity to experience....

I wish I was able to report that there is some groomed skiing open! Sadly, the latest word is that the SNO-Parks will not open until December 1, 2011 and the Summit At Snoqualmie may not even open its nordic trails until Christmas! Time will tell.

Over night we had a trace of new snow. The temperature has visibly lowered from last night sitting at around 30 degrees.

During the day on Wedenesday we had maybe 4-6 inches of snow. It
appeared that there was some rain mixed in with that and that was
consistent during Wedenesday Night Thursday morning. Thursday
Morning, I was not able to get up the hill, causing me to get to work
late 30 minutes, and part of the reason I did not post yesterday as I
was side tracked trying to get out of the house....

Yesterday there was perhaps about 12 inches of new snow with about
another 6 inches of snow during the day..... The temperature sits
around 32 degrees and there has not been any freezing rain so to speak

Last night when I got home around 10:00 pm it was obvious that there had been precipitation, but not white. :(

It was very frosty icy and the temp was 32.

This morning no precipitation to speak of and it is 28.4.

One of the reasons I got home last night was because I went to a presentation on la Nina given by Rebecca Stevenson , chief meteorologist for kiro weather. One thing she said that really resonated with me is that you have to take things with each storm. For example, prior to the storm 24 to 36 hours ago the pattern showed snow for this weekend and I think today. But when the storm hit all the models went out the window. This is why it is important to check forecasts often, two or more times a day!!! I have seen this happen frequently so it was good to hear that this is something that could be expected.

I learned that Rebecca is a skier, which I did not know. It's always good when a forecaster is one of "us".

In case you did not know Rebecca has been a huge advocate of the new dual polarization radar, which I have been excited for. This new radar is supposed to see things horizontally AND vertically which may help to more quickly identify where snow is falling or about to fall. Obviously this is great for us skiers but will hopefully help with snow removal efforts in the city...... Its all new! So the forecast models will still need to be developed!!!!! The possibilities are exciting and this area is the first area to get this technology and we have Rebecca to thank for that... Thankyou Rebecca!!!!!

I love snow and love that it is snowing. It seems odd though as last night we had our first of two Pacific Crest Trail Film Nights. The other being on April 15th in Seattle, so there is time to come to one if you want to see a couple of very interesting films...

I have my hummingbird feeder out and April 1st is the earliest I have seen one here though one has been seen as early as March 17th at the summit. They should arrive any time now and will likely depend on the weather that they have encountered on the way here. They do not do well in storms, but storms tend to drive birds to feeders, so it would be kinda cool to see one today. Invariably in May we get a winter storm that will drive about 2,000 hummingbirds a day to my feeders....
